Italian Technology Cluster dedicated to Technologies for the Smart Communities
is the Italian network of public, industry and research stakeholders for the valorization and promotion, at a national and international level, of the industrial and research excellences regarding the Smart Cities & Communities areas.
This network, having the formal statute of National Association, is coordinated by Fondazione Piemonte Innova
The Cluster intends to increase and enhance Italy’s research and innovation competences to answer to the social challenges of the modern Smart Cities & Communities in the following areas
It includes the collection, integration and sharing of data and information, for the understanding, management and improvement of the demand for mobility of goods and people, through the involvement of the final user (citizens, tourists, businesses) even as a co-producer of mobility services.
It refers to a holistic view of Security, which ranges from the physical security of the urban context, critical infrastructures and the territory, to the IT security of data, devices, networks and IT systems, for people and businesses
It includes the management and integration of urban assets (parking areas, data connectivity, public lighting, water networks, waste collection), the management of the relationship between public administrations and citizens, the methods of supplying services
Open and inclusive networks coordinated by the main public and private subjects operating in industrial research, training and technology transfer.
Each aggregation is focused on a specific technological and applicative strategic area for our country and for this area it represents the most authoritative interlocutor for skills, knowledge, structures, networks and potential

It gathers, in a single synergic system, the key Italian actors that address research, technology transfer and industrial innovation in the field of Technologies for Smart Communities.
he Cluster represents a continuously growing network, and currently groups more than 150 partners including companies, research centers and local Public Administrations from eleven Italian regions (Piemonte, Lombardia, Toscana, Veneto, Liguria, Provincia Autonoma di Trento, Emilia Romagna, Umbria, Lazio, Puglia, Sicilia).

Among the strategic actions that distinguish the Cluster also includes the drafting of the National Research and Innovation Roadmap on Smart Communities that is updated every year. This document, which presents the strategic objectives and recommendations for implementing the digital transformation of the three key sectors of Smart Communities, is the proposal that the Cluster and its Adherents make to build together smarter, safer and more inclusive communities.
The Roadmap includes a projects portfolio that expresses the innovation planning expenditures of companies and research institutions in the Smart Communities area.
The Project Portfolio contains 96 project ideas for 193 million euros
