The MoTO project aims to create a Living Lab in Turin to explore innovative solutions for social, shared, and digital mobility. It involves international public and private partners such as Transcality, Dreamwaves, Karos Mobility, the City of Turin, and the Piemonte Innova Foundation, and is inspired by the European Mission “100 Climate Neutral Cities.”

The project, funded by EIT Urban Mobility, runs from June 2024 to May 2025 and seeks to improve urban life through inclusivity, sustainability, and digitalisation. It plans to test a digital twin for urban monitoring (Transcality), carpooling solutions (Karos), and inclusive mobility options for visually impaired people (Dreamwaves). By collaborating with initiatives such as ToMove and Torino City Lab, MoTO aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of these innovative solutions and create scalable and replicable models for other cities.

The MoTO project is one of the finalists of the Targeted Open Call 2024, under the theme “Multi-governmental open innovation partnerships for sustainable mobility solutions,” launched by EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative promoted by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

EIT Urban Mobility

The MoTO project includes both public and private partners, specifically the third-party companies Karos (carpooling), Dreamwaves (inclusive mobility for visually impaired people), and Transcality (urban monitoring with a digital twin), along with the City of Turin.

  • Creating a Living Lab that experiments with new technological solutions for mobility in order to improve economic, social, and environmental well-being.
  • Supporting the development of innovative companies in the mobility sector to promote the creation of new services aimed at specific user groups in the City of Turin.

The Piemonte Innova Foundation acts as the lead partner in the project and will undertake a series of activities between June 2024 and May 2025:

  • Administrative and financial management: ensuring accurate monitoring of the project’s administrative and financial activities.
  • Connections and relations with the EIT: maintaining relationships with EIT Urban Mobility.
  • Monitoring the solutions of Transcality, Karos, and Dreamwaves: ongoing supervision of the three partner companies involved in the project.
  • Coordination of user engagement activities: managing activities to engage citizens and potential users.
  • Risk management: identifying and mitigating project-related risks.
  • Dissemination of MoTO Living Lab activities: participating in national and international events to present the project results.
  • Synergies with national mobility programs: collaborating with mobility initiatives at the national level.
  • Organisation of the final event: presenting the project’s experiments and results at a concluding event in May 2025.

The project targets, on the one hand, the three partner companies, which will test their solutions in the City of Turin, and on the other hand, the citizens and potential users of the implemented solutions.
